To whom much is given, much is expected.

Once students have learned to read, the world is an open book. Our program has students reading chapter books by the end of the 1st grade. Beginning in grade 2, our curriculum expands to open the worlds of science, language, literature, history, art, and music to provide a sound basis for later education. Classical education emphasizes depth in these grades which draws out the interest of the children. In 2nd grade, students study ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the patriarchs. In 3rd, they study Ancient Greece and Rome; 4th-- Medieval Europe; 5th-- The Renaissance; and 6th-- American history.

The art and music related to each grade's history is integrated into the curriculum. Our Saxon math track runs about 1 year ahead of the grade in these years. We begin Latin in 2nd grade and continue it through the 8th. Latin is used along with Shurley grammar to develop students' mastery and understanding of language and to help build strong vocabularies.

We do not have "Bible class", but rather we study scripture as it is integrated in every subject. We've heard from Sunday school teachers and pastors that they could usually tell Foundations Academy students because of their knowledge of scripture.
